Orlando Moreira, PhD

Existentialism

A short introduction

Orlando Moreira (b. 1975, Porto) is a computer architect specializing in artificial intelligence chips. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology on model-based temporal analysis of computer systems. His philosophical engagements include Marcus Aurelius, Camus, Becker, Schopenhauer, and a particular affinity with Fernando Pessoa's exploration of identity and perception. This informs his interest in reality's fabric and shared human experience. Beyond technology, Dr. Moreira has published a Portuguese verse adaptation of the Finnish epic 'Kalevala' (2007) and regularly organizes role-playing games. His other pursuits include cosmic horror fiction and heated debates with people he doesn’t know on social networks.

We think both the worlds of philosophy and popular culture will be hearing a lot more from Dr. Moreira in the coming years…
